On 1 April 2013 there were drastic changes made by the Government to the types of work and circumstances in which legal aid is now available in the area of family law. Despite the changes many people still remain eligible if certain evidence is provided.
Legal aid is available for all parents and those with parental responsibility for children who are concerned in Care proceedings and often other public law proceedings brought by the local authority. Any other member of the family may be eligible for public funding subject to a means and merits tests. In terms of private family work again legal aid remains available for victims of Domestic Abuse.
In certain circumstances and with particular evidence it is available to those who are financially eligible for work in connection with Divorce, Finances and Private Children matters.
